Creating a Meaningful Work Environment

At Humana, we understand that inclusion enables a meaningful work environment where diverse individuals feel welcome.

Our associates’ vast experiences and perceptions—their unique characteristics, backgrounds and beliefs—drive the groundbreaking, strategic thinking that gives Humana its competitive edge in a diverse marketplace. Our approach fosters innovative thinking and creativity, expands insights and generates better business outcomes.

Celebrating diverse backgrounds and creating an environment of inclusion is at the heart of Humana. Our commitment is to ensure Humana’s work environment is one in which every associate can bring their whole self to work to do their best work. Creating a culture like this is also important because of the direct and positive impact it has on our customers and their experience.

Living Our Values

Humana has made several national commitments to inclusion and diversity in the workplace. In 2017, President and CEO Bruce Broussard signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge. It is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In November 2019, Humana joined the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change, a transformational diversity and inclusion initiative launched by Catalyst—a global thought leader and partner in accelerating the progress of women at work.

From gender to background to race and ethnicity, inclusivity is our priority. Through our Veterans Hiring Initiative, we have hired more than 5,100 veterans and military spouses since the start of the initiative. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in our workforce.

72%of our workforce are women
43%of our senior leadership positions are held by women
39%of our workforce are people of color
16%of our senior leadership positions are held by people of color
35%of our workforce are Millennials

We keep ourselves accountable to the success of inclusion and diversity at Humana in many ways, and one is our ranking among the top diversity experts in the country.

Network Resource Groups

Humana recognizes the value in bringing associates with shared backgrounds and common interests together through NRGs. Associates participating in our NRGs have valuable insights and first-hand experience in understanding the diversity of our community and our customers. NRGs provide our associates with an opportunity for personal growth by enabling them to network across the organization and share their thoughts and ideas with the business.
