Actuarial Internship

A full-time 12-week paid summer internship for college students pursuing a related degree program that gives interns exposure to traditional and non-traditional actuarial work throughout Humana’s 30+ actuarial departments. Interns are involved in collecting data related to product development, pricing, reserving, financial reporting, and other actuarial functions. Housing is provided when internships are held onsite.

Duration: 12 weeks during Summer

Applications accepted: Fall prior to summer internship

Locations: Louisville, KY

Information Technology (IT) Internship

A full-time 12-week paid summer internship for college students pursuing a career in Information Technology. Gain firsthand experience working in the healthcare industry in business areas such as application development, infrastructure and cyber security, and information technology operations. Housing is provided when internships are held onsite.

Duration: 12 weeks during Summer

Applications accepted: Fall prior to summer internship

Finance & Accounting Internship

A part-time one-year paid internship in various corporate finance or accounting departments across the company. Students can extend their participation in the program beyond one year. The program is structured to allow students the most exposure to different departments and colleagues. Students will rotate into a new department approximately every 6 months in January and June and will work on a variety of activities and assignments, such as creating financial transactions, analyzing financial data, and collaborating with teammates and leadership regarding financial information. This is a local program, and no housing is provided.

Duration: Year-long with classes beginning in June and January

Applications accepted: June start, applications open in February. January start, applications open in August.

Locations: Louisville, KY

Qualifications: Currently pursuing a finance or accounting undergraduate degree or a related graduate-level business degree/certificate (MBA, MAcc, Accounting Certificate, etc.). Please refer to the job description for the full list of requirements.

Graduate MBA

A full-time 12-week virtual summer internship for first-year MBA students. This is a comprehensive program where students will gain hands experience and engage in meaningful and challenging work that will enhance their skills and contribute to the goals and objectives of the company. We have MBA internship opportunities across the company in several areas such as operations, data analytics and strategy/innovation.

Duration: 12 weeks during the Summer

Applications accepted: Fall prior to summer internship

Locations: Virtual with first week onboarding in Louisville, KY

An 11-month paid internship program in Louisville, KY for students enrolled in University of Louisville MBA or MS Business Analytics accelerated program. Students are placed into roles where they can utilize their diverse thinking and unique skill sets throughout the company.

Duration: 11 months, 32 hours/week with classes beginning in August

Applications accepted: April prior to August start

Student Nurse Externship

A part-time 8-week paid summer externship experience for nursing students within one year of anticipated graduation from an accredited school of nursing. This is an amazing opportunity for student nurses to gain hands-on experience caring for patients in their homes under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Duration: 8-week experience, three days a week, 24 hours/week during June and July

Applications accepted: January - April prior to summer externship

Locations: Locations for 2024 include Connecticut, Kentucky, Texas and West Virginia

Qualifications: Students must show proof of successfully entering their final year of associate or bachelor’s program at an accredited nursing school. Upon completion of your rotation or externship, degree, and passing of the NCLEX, students and their mentor can discuss the options for working as an RN.

Clinical Rotations

Clinical Rotations are offered for student nurses, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, and speech language pathologists. This experience is completed onsite at a local branch with travel to patient homes, under clinical supervision, through one of our CenterWell Home Health branches.

Duration: Spring, summer and fall semesters

Applications accepted: Summer requests due February 15. Fall requests are due May 30. Spring requests are due October 1.

Locations: Varied across the U.S.

Qualifications: Students must be enrolled in a degree seeking clinical program. Students must have their own reliable transportation, as students are not permitted to ride along with clinicians.

Pharmacist Student Rotation: Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)

A full-time rotation program for pharmacy students pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Rotations are offered both in-person and virtually throughout the year and are typically 4-6 weeks in duration. Under the supervision of a pharmacist preceptor, students will work as part of a pharmacy healthcare team to provide advanced clinical pharmacy services. 

Duration: 4-6 weeks year-round

Locations: Varied across the U.S.

Qualifications: Students must be in their final year of education at an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college of pharmacy and have an active Kentucky pharmacy intern license in good standing.

Pharmacist Summer Internship Program

A full-time 10-week summer internship program for pharmacy students pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited college of pharmacy. In partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation, students will learn about the pharmaceutical industry, health plans, pharmacy benefit management companies, and other areas of the pharmacy industry. Students will attend the AMCP Nexus meeting, where industry leaders and health care professionals come together to discuss the transformative ideas that are shaping the future of managed care pharmacy; all travel, registration, and housing for AMCP Conferences will be handled by AMCP Foundation. AMCP Foundation internships provide a modest stipend paid via direct deposit.

Duration: 10 weeks between the months of May and August of program year

Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Managed Care Pharmacy Residency Program

A full-time 12-month paid advanced pharmacist training program designed to prepare pharmacists for a career in managed care. The program provides learning opportunities in multiple areas to provide pharmaceutical care at a population health level. Residents gain experience in an integrated health plan and pharmacy benefit management corporate setting, which prepares them for successful careers as managed care pharmacists. Upon graduation from the program, residents are qualified to take the Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) board certification exam and/or pursue postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) accredits Humana’s PGY1 managed care pharmacy residency program.

Duration: July-June

Locations: Louisville, KY

Qualifications: Candidates have an active in good standing pharmacist license or be eligible for pharmacist licensure in Kentucky.
